Martha thought victory over death was a future expectation Jesus corrects her, showing that victory is a present reality.Īfter presenting Himself as the resurrection and the life, Jesus asks Martha an all-important question: “Do you believe this?” (John 11:26). Martha’s knowledge of eternal life was an abstract idea Jesus proved that knowledge of eternal life is a personal relationship. Martha believed that the resurrection is an event Jesus showed her (and us) that the resurrection is a Person. Jesus’ statement that He is the resurrection and the life provides a godly perspective on several spiritual matters. Because He is Life, we have life eternally. Death has no dominion over Him who is Life itself, nor does death have dominion over those who are in Him (1 Corinthians 15:54-55). Truly, with Christ, death is but “sleep” (1 Thessalonians 4:13). It’s one thing to claim to be the resurrection and the life, but Jesus proved it by raising Lazarus, who was four days dead. Outside the tomb, “Jesus called in a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come forth!’ The dead man came out” (John 11:43). Jesus shows that neither Death nor time is an obstacle to Him. In effect, Martha was saying, “It’s too late to help Lazarus (the time is past), so now we must wait (allow more time).” And when Jesus spoke of resurrection, Martha assumed He was speaking of “the resurrection at the last day.” In both statements, Martha reveals that she considered Time an insurmountable obstacle. The grieving Martha wished that Jesus had arrived earlier so He could have healed her brother. Believers in Jesus Christ will experience resurrection because, having the life Jesus gives, it is impossible for death to defeat them (1 Corinthians 15:53-57). Jesus confers this spiritual life on those who believe in Him, so that they share His triumph over death (1 John 5:11-12). He does more than give life He is life, and therefore death has no ultimate power over Him. Beyond that, Jesus was also making a statement concerning His divine nature. There is no resurrection apart from Christ, and there is no eternal life apart from Christ. When Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life,” He was claiming to be the source of both. Martha responded again in faith: “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” At this point, Jesus makes His fifth “I Am” statement in John’s gospel, “I am the resurrection and the life,” and He follows it with a call to faith: “He who believes in me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die” (John 11:21-24). Jesus replied by assuring Martha that her brother would rise again. “If you had been here,” she said, “my brother would not have died.” Such was her faith in Jesus’ power to heal. Outside Bethany, Lazarus’s sister Martha went out to meet Jesus. Significantly, when Jesus informed His disciples that Lazarus was dead, He simply said His friend was “asleep, but I am going there to wake him up” (John 11:11). After Lazarus died, Jesus began a journey to Bethany, Lazarus’s home. He explained to His puzzled disciples that the sickness was “for God’s glory, that God’s Son may be glorified through it” (v. Earlier, Jesus had heard that His good friend was sick, but instead of going to visit Lazarus, Jesus “stayed where he was for two more days” (John 11:6). “I am the Resurrection and the Life” (John 11:25) is the fifth of the seven “ I am” statements of Jesus.

The formation of Swartswood Lake began more than 10 million years ago when the limestone and dolomite beneath the valley floor began to dissolve, causing the creation of sinkholes and caverns. Swartswood was established as New Jersey’s first state park in 1915 to ensure public access to the State’s third largest freshwater lake. Public outcry prompted the State to pursue the acquisition. Emmons and his wish ” …that the people may have the use of the premises conveyed as a public park forever…” The lake was purchased in 1914 for $30,000 from Andrew Albright, a wealthy Newark manufacturer, who would not allow public access without payment of one dollar each day. It all started with just 10 acres donated by George M. It later became the perfect location for New Jersey’s first state park. Canoes, sailboats and even a steamboat provided leisurely transport on the pristine 519-acre lake. Small cottages, tent platforms and boarding houses occupied the shoreline. Visitors travelled by horse-drawn carriage, railroad and eventually by automobile to reach the shores of Swartswood Lake. The lake became popular as a summer resort in the late 1800s for urban dwellers seeking respite in a tranquil rural environment. So, pack your gear for the day or weekend and take advantage of all the opportunities the natural landscape has to offer. Bring binoculars for a close view of the many resident bald eagles frequently seen flying over the lakes as well as other birds of prey and waterfowl. As a bonus, Little Swartswood Lake offers all of the same on a smaller scale (except swimming), just minutes away by car or a short hike. Instead, expect views of colorful sailboats, canoes and kayaks on the still waters of Swartswood Lake. Don’t expect jet skis or gas-powered motorboats racing across the 519-acre natural glacial lake as only electric motors are permitted. This remote and rural area is off the beaten path and away from all major highways, but worth finding. Purchased in 1914 for public enjoyment, Swartswood Lake has been attracting visitors long before it was established as a state park. Swartswood Lake provides tranquil surroundings and opportunities for recreation in a natural rural setting. They found they could obtain the highest performance with visualization and high self-efficacy exercises. Enhance performance: In this 2021 study, researchers looked at the effect of visualization and self-efficacy on athletes’ performance. In other words, it helps you cultivate a sense of calm you need to feel confident and capable.ĥ. Become more confident: Visualizing the process of achieving your goal develops your confidence and determination as your brain perceives it as an actual experience. It’s widely practiced as a stand-alone tool or paired with physical relaxation techniques to help you relax and achieve a peaceful state of mind.Ĥ. Reduce stress: Visualization, also known as mental imagery, is a proven technique for stress reduction. Visualization helps you visualize the outcome before it manifests itself in your physical reality and increases your motivation to move towards achieving it.ģ. But it’s hard to fake it before you make it because humans need to see it before they believe it. Increase motivation: Suppose you know what you want. But visualization helps you clearly state what you want and move in the right direction.Ģ. Often, people are wishy-washy when it comes to their goals. Get clarity on what you want: Before you start visualizing what you want, you need to know what it is. Let’s look at the benefits of visualization:ġ. One of the most potent benefits of visualization is helping you shift your mindset in the right direction. This is when the power of visualization can help you tap into your soul’s desires and be in alignment with who you are. When the external world constantly bombards you, it’s almost impossible to define your desires and aspirations coming from your unique soul. Every medium is fighting for your attention, promising to grant fulfillment if you get this or that thing. So the best visualization techniques are based on these two distinct processes of using imagination and visualization. “Imagination is directed outwardly, similar to using your mouth to speak words, while visualization is an inward process of perception like using your ears to hear words,” he explains. When you receive the information through intuition, you use visualization. What’s the difference between imagination and visualization?Īccording to Vishen, founder of Mindvalley and trainer of The Silva Ultramind System Quest, you use imagination when you create something in your mind. The key is to use your imagination and visualization for powerful results. Once you learn the rules of this creative game, you can create whatever you desire. To make visualization work for you (not against you, as in the case of negative thinking), you need to know the rules of the mind and the Law of Attraction. With that being said, not every idea is created equally. When you have a burning desire, this mental energy gets amplified by emotions and eventually manifests in your physical reality. When you desire something, you focus your mental energy on it. Everything ever created or achieved first started as an idea in someone’s mind. The power of visualization is your ability to create the outcome you don’t see. Visualization techniques work magic-the magic of your mind, and you can make your life magical if you know how to use it. On the other side of the coin, you can use this immense power to create the outcome you desire by visualizing it first. Wonder why things go wrong? Because they have already gone wrong in your mind. When you play in your head an event, past or upcoming, you experience it in your mind as if it’s happening to you in the present moment. Believe it or not, you use it without knowing, for better or worse. The power of visualization works hand-in-hand with the Law of Attraction.
