The microbus received a comprehensive restoration and currently has 327 miles on the odometer. There is a four-speed manual transmission and four-wheel drum brakes. The original 1,192cc engine was replaced with a larger 1,584cc dual-port, overhead-valve, flat four-cylinder with a single Solex carburetor and delivers 50 horsepower at 3,000 RPM. This eight-seater model had a walkthrough cabin, a dash-mounted clock, front flip-out safari windshield glass panels, and Wolfsburg crested steering wheel. This Deluxe microbus is finished in its original color of Sealing Wax Red while the interior has been reupholstered in a light gray vinyl with dark gray accents and two-tone side panels. Although much of its early history is unknown, it spent the latter part of its life in the western part of the United States, most recently in southern California. It departed the factory a few months later and was delivered within its home country of Germany. This 1959 Volkswagen 23-window Deluxe 'Samba' microbus was completed on February 17, 1959.
